Regulators and watchdogs are coming down hard on WhatsApp's new privacy policy

WhatsApp's recent decision to share user data with parent company Facebook is quickly turning into a full blown privacy scandal. If you are not in the know about the move, it basically comes down to a change in terms and conditions that will enable sharing some WhatsApp info, like online status and your phone number with Facebook. According to official statements, this will help Facebook improve its friends suggestions and ad accuracy, among other things and will not affect the encryption and protection of WhatsApp conversations.

Both aforementioned parties and their common leadership, likely hoped that this first privacy policy change since the instant messenger's acquisition four years ago would go by unnoticed. However, both UK's information commissioner and third-party organizations have found major faults in the way the move is executed and are now tightening the grip around the social network titan.

Elizabeth Denham, the currently appointed UK ICO, commented on the matter yesterday .

"We’ve been informed of the changes. Organisations do not need to get prior approval from the ICO to change their approaches, but they do need to stay within data protection laws. We are looking into this. … “The changes WhatsApp and Facebook are making will affect a lot of people. Some might consider it’ll give them a better service, others may be concerned by the lack of control. Our role is to pull back the curtain on things like this, ensuring that companies are being transparent with the public about how their personal data is being shared, and protecting consumers by making sure the law is being followed"

And if you are wondering what the problem in particular is, well, the way in which the privacy policy change is being presented and handled is somewhat suspicious and borderline illegal in some aspects. For starters, back when WhatsApp joined the Facebook empire, a promise was made that this wouldn't affect its privacy policy and that it would not share or sell "personally identifiable information".

This is actually just one of the points an organization called the Electronic Privacy Information Center (EPIC) claims violates the Federal Trade Commission consent order withing the US. According to the latter, a company must obtain opt-in consent before asking a user to agree to new terms and conditions. This is a direct stab at What'sApp's current approach, which offer users a 30 day opt-out option, which indeed is not exactly the same thing. So, Facebook seems to be under a lot of heat from two major markets now with probably more EU trouble still on the horizon

And frankly, even if you think that the UK ICO and EPIC are nitpicking and Zuckerberg really plans to stand by his best intentions to help users better "communicate with business" and so forth, it is still undeniable that the new privacy policy is a little confusing at best and likely intentionally so. To access the aforementioned opt-out checkbox, you have to open the full terms-of-service. Otherwise it is not visible. Also, one part of the text reads as follows:

Share my WhatsApp account information with Facebook to improve my Facebook ads and products experiences. Your chats and phone number will not be shared onto Facebook regardless of this setting.

What this actually means is that Facebook won't be sharing you chats and phone number publicly, although it will still keep record of the latter internally. And as far as the chats par goes, well, we just have to take their word for it. In our opinion, that could have easily be phrased better.

UMI Max is a Flagship Smartphone

UMI Mobile, a mobile manufacturer, based out of China is known for its high-end specifications handset with affordable price tag. Over the past couple of times, the brand has now and then launched eye-grabbing handsets. Their latest handset, UMI Max is one such device that many smartphone enthusiasts would like to get their hands on.

In this post, we would be covering the top features of the UMI Max Smartphone. So, below you can find different sections where we showcase the top features of the UMI Max smartphone. Let’s dive in, shall we. Note that it is the price at $169.99 and is available for pre-sale on various international retailers. The pricing is valid until August 31st as per company records on their website.

Design

Most handsets in the price range won’t offer anything remotely that Umi Max has to offer. It has a nearly perfect all-metal body design. As far as the aesthetics are concerned, it has a fantastic construction. The elegant sheen of metal makes it for a stylish and pretty attractive design. The company claims that they have preserved the authentic texture of the anodised and sandblasted metal. As they share, there is no additional painting done for looks and shiny finish. It is just what it is. The UMI Max is a stylish statement that asks to be flaunted in public.

Display

The brand uses Sharp display panel on their UMI Max Smartphone. The 5.5-inch 1080p display is as vivid as any screen with this size and resolution can get. The Sharp panel features a high colour saturation display with 95% NTSC gamut. There is claimed a 17% better viewing angle compared to average 1080 display. It may not be AMOLED display, but it indeed offers vivid colours, even under direct sunlight. Additionally, there is a protection of curved 2.5D Corning Gorilla Glass 3 for protection from scratches.

Hardware

Regarding hardware specifications inside the device, it is fitted with a MediaTek Helio P10 processor, which is an Octa-core chipset. It is widely popular among mid-range as a powerful and yet power efficient SoC. The company doesn’t expect less than anything marvel performance than it’s UMI Max. The chipset is accompanied by a 3GB of RAM and uses Samsung’s eMMC 5.1 flash storage, which offer faster transfer of data. Thus, making it load apps quicker than lower grade flash storage. Moreover, do make a note that its storage capacity can be expanded up 256GB, which is just gigantic. There is a fingerprint sensor on the back side of the device, which claims to unlock the device within 0.1 seconds.

Software

As far as the software experience is concerned, the device is said to offer pure Android stock user interface. The brand touts that it has an Android 6.0 Marshmallow out of the box, which is the latest stable release available for mass handsets. We don’t expect Android 7.0 Nougat to be available pretty soon for this, but this is pretty fantastic for the price it comes. There won’t be any bloatware, which is a good thing for pure Android enthusiasts.

Camera

The camera department packs Panasonic’s 13-megapixel high-speed camera, which is a faster shooter than your average 13MP module. The brand claims that its users can blindly take shots, and it would be quicker and better than most 13MP modules out there. It might be over exaggeration, but nonetheless. The 13MP rear module from Panasonic seems pretty good deal here. According to the brand, the module on rear takes approximately 0.5 seconds to launch, 0.3 seconds to focus and have zero shutter lag.

YouTube Might Be Transformed Into A Full Pledged Social Media Platform Soon

When you hear the word YouTube, the first thing that comes to your mind is video. What we know YouTube to be is a platform where we upload videos, watch videos, comment, like, dislike and just any other thing that has to do With videos. But that might probably be changing soon as Google is planning to make YouTube more than just an online video platform that we have always known it to be.

While the videos are shared YouTube, most of the conversation happens on social media platforms like Facebook, Instagram, Twitter among others. According to Information from Venturebeat, the internet giant ,Google is planning to transform YouTube from just an online video sharing platform to a simple social networking website.
The feature which is going to be called "Backstage" will allow YouTube users to share photos, surveys, links, text messages and videos with subscribers.
This new feature which is expected to be launched at the end of this year is going to be available for desktop websites and also application for mobile devices. According to Venturebeat, this new service will first be made available to the most influential and popular YouTube users, then progressively it will be released to the general public.
For now we will say this is a rumour since it hasn't been made official yet. But if Google happens to push forward with this new project then it's definitely going to change the face of YouTube and the social media as a whole.

How To Find My Android Phone : Lost Or Stolen Using Android Device Manage

This tutorial is based on how to use Android Device Manager to
Remotely locate and protect your Android devices with Google’s equivalent to "Find my iPhone".
How To Find My Android Phone using android device manager

Apple users have long enjoyed the ability to track their devices if they were lost or stolen

"The Find My iPhone" option has been proudly touted as an anti-theft measure, with stories online of people recovering their iPhone by turning up at the perp's door with the police in tow.

Now Android has added a very similar feature called the Android Device Manager for GPS-equipped
smartphones and tablets.

It allows you to locate your lost device and also change passwords, lock screen PINs, and even remotely wipe your missing unit.

Here's how to set up your phone or tablet to use the service, so the next time your Tecno C9 falls behind the sofa you’ll be able to track it down.

How To Set up Your Android Device Manager

Step 1
>First need to head over to www.google.com/android/devicemanager
>Here you’ll be prompted to accept Google’s request for location data. As this is a tracking service it’s necessary to do this for the feature to work properly.

Step 2
>if you already have a Tecno device with location services turned on then it should automatically appear on your list. Here you’ll see the current position of your handset, along with the last time it was used.

Step 3
>To switch between devices click on the name and a drop down menu will appear. Select another model and you’ll be taken to the map screen for that one instead. You can also rename each device by clicking on the pencil icon.

Step 4
>To step up a new device you’ll need to visit the App Store on the handset itself, then search for the Android Device Manager app. There are a few similar apps, so look for the one with the green circle and target in the middle

Step 5
>Tap the install button and you’ll be presented with another Welcome screen requesting to use your location data. As in Step 1 you’ll need to agree to this if you want to use the service. Tap Accept and you’re ready to go.

Step 6
>The screen should now look remarkably like the one in Step 2, this is because the Android Device Manager app basically uses the web interface to run the service. Once your device has found a GPS signal it should appear on the drop-down menu.

Step 7
>Now you can take a closer look at the features available. Beneath the device name there are two different icons - Ring, and Set up Lock & Erase. We’ll look at how each of them work in turn, starting with Ring

Step 8
>Selecting the Ring option will allow the app to make your device announce itself at maximum volume for five minutes, even if it’s locked and set to vibrate. This is particularly useful if you’ve lost it somewhere in the house.

Step 9
>Selecting Setup Lock and Erase will return a dialog box telling you that you need to send the device a notification. Tap Send and you’ll see a message appear in your notification bar for Android Device Manager, tap this.

Step 10
>You’ll now be taken to the settings for the app, where a pop up box will ask if you want to activate the device administrator? Agree to this and your device will now have access to all the security features.

Step 11
>The Lock option will now allow you to remotely create a new password for the lock screen, while Wipe is the choice of last resort. Essentially it’s a factory reset which removes all of your data from the device.Very effective in the event of a theft.

So With This Way, You Will Be Able To Find,Trace And Track Where You Misplaced Your Most Costly Devices

Note: Your GPS Must Always Be Switched On In Your 'Big' PhonesPhones.. If Not It'll Not Work
